We use the data we collect to provide you with the services guaranteed in the general terms and conditions of our contract. And security is always a top priority at mail.com.

What information do we collect?

We process the following data collected from mail.com's email:

Account data: Information you shared with us during registration (name and date of birth, for example).
Content data: Content you actively use or create as a user. This includes emails, address book contacts, or files that you save in mail.com Cloud. We save this information so that it is available for your use. Email content is legally protected against third-party access and is subject to secrecy of telecommunications regulations.
Usage data: All information generated when using a service. This data is deleted after usage has ended, in accordance with the law.
Traffic data: Information that is generated while using the email service (date and time of access or delivery, or the IP address of the device used to access your inbox, for example).

We collect account data and content data to be able to fulfill the services guaranteed in our contract with you.

In Data Protection & Advertisements you can find configuration options to control interest-based advertisements and newsletter settings.
It is not possible to revoke the use of traffic data, as it is needed to provide you with our services.

We use an automatic, standardized analysis of procedures to improve the user experience for our products, websites, and applications. If you don’t want your data to be used for analysis purposes, you can opt out of mail.com's Privacy Policy.

Saving personal data

Content and usage data is deleted after 180 days of inactivity. The email address registered at mail.com and the affiliated inbox is saved and later deleted in accordance with established legal periods.

If a user wishes to delete his or her inbox, all data and the user account will be deleted, provided it does not interfere with any other legally-established periods of safekeeping.

Your account data will be deleted after you’ve stopped using the affiliated email account, in accordance with the law.

Content data is automatically deleted if you delete your files from Cloud (permanently from the trash) or after 180 days of an account’s inactivity.

Usage data is deleted after the end of usage, in accordance with the law.

Your mail.com Mail app

What data do we process and why?

To be able to offer you complete, consistent, and unlimited access to your inbox, we process your personal data in accordance with mail.com’s Terms and Conditions and the mail.com's Privacy Policy. We will ask for additional consent for supplementary services such as push notifications for apps.

We process the following data from mail.com’s Mail app:

Account data: Information from your email account that you provided during registration (name and date of birth, for example).
Content data: Data that you actively upload or use in the app. We save this information so that it is available for your use. Your email files will only be saved in high-security, German computer centers and are protected against third-party access.
Usage data: Information that is generated when using the app and which provides insight into how the product is used. This data is deleted after the end of usage, in accordance with the law. When setting up the app we will ask for your permission to include additional services like push notifications to inform you about new incoming emails.
Traffic data: Information that is generated while using the email service, the IP address of the device used to access your inbox, for example.

We process content data in order to fulfill the services guaranteed in our contract with you. To stop the processing of your data, you would have to terminate or revoke your existing mail.com account contract and stop using the app.

It is not possible to revoke the use of traffic data needed to provide our services.

Saving personal data

Your traffic data is saved for a period of time in accordance with the law and is subsequently deleted.

Content and usage data is deleted after 180 days of inactivity. The email address registered at mail.com and the affiliated inbox will be saved in accordance with legal time frames and then deleted.

If a user wishes to terminate his or her relationship with mail.com, all data and the account will be deleted, provided it does not interfere with any other legally established periods of safekeeping.

Local data is deleted by deleting the application from the end device.
